That's why Banner Health's McKee Medical Center has created a highly specialized department for women's pelvic cancer. The Experts McKee's team of two includes Dr. John Crane, board- certified, female pelvic medicine reconstructive surgeon (FPRS); and Dr. Jennifer Rubatt, fellowship-trained, board-certified, gynecologic oncologist. Dr. Crane has been in Loveland for 22 years and, until Dr. Rubatt arrived, he did all the pelvic cancer surgery at McKee as well as the reconstructive pelvic surgery. Because Dr. Rubatt is a gyn/ oncologist, the cancer cases now go mainly to her with Dr. Crane as backup, though his experience in oncology is also significant. Gynecologic oncology is still a fairly rare specialization. Those who follow that path of study get ob/ gyn training, surgical training, and then fellowship training in oncology. Dr. Rubatt is the only gyn/oncologist from northern Colorado to Montana. If a patient has a confirmed or possible cancer, it makes intuitive sense that they need an experienced physician who sees that problem all the time. Medical studies bear out the need for expert care as well.
