But the only one-size-fits-all solution for shedding excess pounds, say nutrition experts, is doing what you know you can follow through on. That's essential because "the ability to comply with a diet is the biggest predictor of success," says Michelle Cardel, who is a registered dietitian and assistant professor at the University of Florida College of Medicine, Department of Health Outcomes and Policy, Gainesville, Fla. "There are a variety of ways to lose weight that can all be effective," says Cardel. But as much as you may pledge to change your eating and exercise habits, your best intentions will likely fall short if you can't stick with the plan. You're more likely to succeed if you're motivated, know yourself, set goals and avoid rigidity, according to nutrition experts.
