2015 WINNER
Monmouth Medical Center,
Long Branch, New Jersey
Every community is unique. This hospital has the
country's fourth largest Chinese-speaking population,
and many of the members of this community don't
take full advantage of appropriate healthcare
services, due to cultural and language barriers.
They overcame this chall
enge by translating their
healthcare education materials and visited churches,
schools, and community centers. Through workshops,
health fairs, and other Spirit events, they educated
Chinese-speaking women and their families about
maintaining good health and disease prevention.
The response from their Chinese-speaking community
has been overwhelming, and their next step is to
develop a program for the R
ussian-speaking women
in their community.
