It also, however, can be an anxious time for parents if that infant is born too early or with medical conditions that require immediate specialty care. So, when Franciscan St. Francis Health made plans to redesign the entire Women & Children's Center at its Indianapolis hospital a few years ago, including the only Level III NICU in south-central Indiana, they started by talking to those with firsthand experience. "We created a NICU parent advisory council," said Paula Stanfill, RN, manager of the NICU.
