Beat cancer
with a team
C
ancer is a battle that shouldn't be fought alone.
Having a team of support during one's fight can
make all the difference.
At Swedish Medical Center, patients facing
this fight are always supported by an excellent
team of physicians, nurses and counselors.
As of this year, the Swedish team is the first in Colorado
to achieve the "Gold Seal" by The Joint Commission for
Pancreatic and Lung Cancer Care. The certification recognizes dedication to continuous compliance with the Joint
Commission's national standards of quality health care. "As
proud as we are to earn this recognition, those who truly
benefit are our patients," says Eric M. Kortz, M.D. "Patients
participating in cancer treatment at Swedish can be assured
that they are receiving state-of-the-art evaluation and care."
This makes Swedish the third medical center in the coun-
try to achieve this award for pancreatic cancer care and
the fifth in the country for lung cancer care.
"This achievement acknowledges the exemplary care we
provide to the patients of Colorado and the surrounding
region," says Mary M. White, president and CEO of Swedish Medical Center. "Our oncology team deserves to be
recognized for their outstanding dedication to quality care."
Both pancreatic and lung cancer patients benefit from
personal one on-one care from the entire staff. Patients have
full access to nurse navigators, multidisciplinary care conferences, state-of-the-art equipment and expert clinical care.
"This achievement recognizes the commitment to best
practice and outcomes. It confirms that we have established
ourselves as the leading institution for cancer treatment in
the region," says Kortz. •
